About

Seth Tolbert, MA, LPC

I’m Seth, a therapist based in Golden, Colorado. I work with adults who are seeking to heal emotional wounds and build lives that feel steadier, more connected, and more meaningful.

I believe therapy isn’t only about reducing pain. It’s also about creating space for growth, curiosity, and even joy. Life is serious, but it doesn’t have to be approached without warmth or humor.

Juniper Roots Counseling is grounded therapy for real life.

A Path to This Work

My path to becoming a therapist grew out of my own experience of meaningful therapy. Working with skilled, attuned clinicians was deeply formative — not only in supporting my own healing, but in shaping how I understand presence, care, and the therapeutic relationship.

Those experiences led me back to graduate school and to Naropa University. The clinicians who supported me along the way continue to influence how I show up with clients today — with humility, attentiveness, and respect for the depth of this work.

Before entering the counseling field, I owned and operated a landscape and gardening business. I loved working outdoors and with my hands, but over time I realized I was increasingly drawn to working with the internal landscape — helping people understand and care for their emotional worlds with patience and curiosity.

The Meaning Behind
Juniper Roots

Juniper trees offer a powerful metaphor for resilience - the transformation of hardship into wisdom. Growing in some of Earth’s harshest environments, they endure not by remaining rigid, but by adapting over time. Their gnarled, swirling forms are not signs of damage, but beautiful living expressions of strength shaped by experience.

Similarly, healing in psychotherapy is not about avoiding difficulty, but about learning how to meet it with flexibility, creativity, and self-compassion. Within a safe and supportive space, therapy can help transform pain into a grounded sense of wisdom, vitality, and deeper connection to oneself.

A Bit More Human

Outside the therapy room, I’m most at home in nature — hiking, camping, biking, and skiing. I write and play music, read often, engage in regular meditation and breathwork, and value time with my partner. I feel most grounded among the trees and under the stars, guitar in hand, sitting around a fire with friends. These parts of my life matter because they keep me connected to what it means to be human.
